Jeff Utecht just posted this cool idea using Google to create digital stories and learn search skills at the same time.  Students would need to utilize a screen capture program such as Jing (download required) or Screentoaster (no download)

Help! How Do I Get Started?

Saskatoon
This workshop is designed for individuals who are beginning teacher-librarians, will focus on helping you gain practical knowledge necessary to begin as a teacher-librarian. The focus will be on co-operative planning and teaching, but will also include library organization, selection and ordering.

Building a Choice Collection
August 17
Saskatoon
This workshop will focus on developing and maintaining a relevant collection, both print and digital. Procedures and guidelines for selection and de-selection will be discussed.

 

SSLA Conference

The SSLA Conference was held May 5, 2010 in Saskatoon. The theme was Blended School Library Practice: Integrating Your Virtual and Real Programs. Judith Comfort, teacher-librarian at Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, B.C., blogger and advocate for the role of teacher-librarians shared with conference participants her journey of blending her bricks and mortar library with her virtual one. Donna DesRoches and Carlene Walter facilitated an Inquiry Tools Smackdown - social media tools that promote and enhance inquiry.

The annual SSLA awards and bursary were also presented to the following worthy participants:

SSLA Update

The SSLA Executive has contracted a graphic artist to explore new branding to update the Association's logo. In its efforts to always remain abreast of emerging technologies and instructional design, the SSLA Executive is also exploring Web site changes.
